MEET FORIS
In 1971 Ted Gerber purchased 15 acres of rugged land in the Siskiyou Mountains, 7 miles from the California border. At the time, there were only 13 wineries in Oregon and NONE in the Rogue Valley. Armed with 30 years of climate data from the smokejumper station south of Cave Junction, Ore., a strong back, and a desire to get back to the land, little did he know that his leap-of-faith would place him among the pioneers of the Oregon Wine industry.
Today, Foris Vineyards spans 255 acres and is home to some of the most amazing stories you’ll ever hear…that, and great wine at good prices.

2022 Chardonnay – 91 pts
Even after several years of rest at the winery, this bottle of Malbec still feels fresh, with crisp acidity and sturdy tannins. A distinct blackberry aroma is joined by a high desert medley of sage brush, saddle leather and California lilacs. Blackberry, bittersweet dark chocolate and black tea flavors are a joy to encounter. – Michael Alberty
2018 Malbec – 92 pts
This lively Pinot Gris is light on body but long on flavor and acidity. Its blood orange juice, crushed chalk and peach-flavored gummy bear aromas are fun and frisky. The wine’s texture is clean and crisp, with more peach flavor and burst of ginger and lemon basil. – Michael Alberty

Lime, lemon verbena and mandarin orange aromas are accompanied by an interesting yeasty baked good note. The other surprise is the wine’s body and fuller mouthfeel. Tangerine sorbet and lemon basil flavors surround a savory note that is close to seared scallops. Lively acidity. – Michael Alberty

If you are in need of a well-priced Pinot packed with acidity, this Southern Oregon treat is for you. A rich blackberry aroma is matched with notes of pine needles and periwinkle flowers. The crisp palate hosts pears, raspberries and green tea flavors, all driven by juicy, lemony acidity. – Michael Alberty
2021 Rogue Valley Pinot Noir – 91 pts
Foris consistently produces a meticulously crafted, value lineup of Alsatian-inspired white wines. As with its siblings, this is crisp, detailed and balanced. Apple and pear fruit is lined with citrus rind. Give it a light chill and it will delight. Best Buy. -P.G.
